Four Ways To Do Your Bit For The Environment
The health of our planet is a topic that is regularly featured in the news in this day and age. Most scientists believe that increasing damage to the environment in terms of pollution and the burning of fossil fuels is a key contributor to the earth’s warming.
Overusing certain materials such as plastics (which take hundreds of years to biodegrade) contributes to environmental problems, and small plastic particles can find their way into the food chain.

Here are four simple ways to help improve the environment:
1. Reduce single-use plastics
Almost every household and business can help to combat the detrimental effects to our environment and our oceans by reducing single-use plastics.
Remember that we often vote with our wallets, and purchasing glass bottles instead of plastic when we buy beverages is a good start.
In fact, a whole host of products can be bought in packaging other than plastic, everything from eggs to washing powder to buying music digitally instead of on CDs.
We have the choice and ability to modify our purchasing habits for the benefit of our world, and reducing single-use plastics should be of prime concern.
2. Travel smartly and responsibly
It is easy to jump into your car for even the shortest journeys, but why not ditch the car for simple trips to the local shops or visit friends and travel by bike instead?
As well as being beneficial for your health and wellbeing via the exercise a bike ride provides, it is also emission-free and one of the cleanest and most efficient ways to travel.
As the weather begins to change and spring is finally here, why not start taking some of your journeys by bike? Your body and the planet will thank you!
For longer journeys, consider taking the train. Train journeys are less damaging to the environment as the carbon footprint of a train journey is divided by its passengers.
3. Recycle more of your waste
By recycling your old and used products, you reduce the need for these to be taken to landfill sites. Such sites contribute to environmental pollution of both land and sea. In addition, the chemicals released by decomposing products are often harmful to the local ecosystems.
More refuse is now picked up to be recycled rather than used in landfill sites in recent years. Make sure you separate the plastics and other materials such as paper and cardboard effectively so they can be efficiently recycled.
It also makes good sense to locate your nearest public recycling center for larger household products that are needed to be disposed of.
4. Volunteer for environmental projects
What better way to actively contribute to a better environment than by getting involved with your local environmental projects?
If you have a family and wish to help educate your children in becoming environmentally aware, then the World Wildlife Fund has a network of youth internship schemes.
These schemes will give them first-hand experience and knowledge and ensure that tomorrow’s adults will keep the planet’s health at the forefront of their minds and activities.
