France has unveiled its Global Health Strategy for 2023-2027, a significant step in shaping global health policies. The launch event in Lyon was attended by three French Ministers, including the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Health and Prevention, and the Minister of Higher Education and Research, along with WHO’s Director-General (Source: WHO)

France’s position as a key player in global health makes its strategy pivotal in the pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG3, focusing on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all.

The new Health Strategy focuses on reducing health inequalities and strengthening the One Health approach to better prepare for global health emergencies.

It emphasizes the global community’s responsibility to address the health consequences of climate change and its impact on health systems.

WHO’s strong collaboration with France and the country’s global health leadership played a crucial role in WHO’s Director-General, Dr. Tedros, attending the launch event.

France has been a founding member of WHO since 1948 and maintains a strong partnership with the organization.

France’s global health priorities align with WHO’s, emphasizing universal health coverage (UHC) as part of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

France actively supports transformative WHO initiatives, including the WHO Academy and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

At the launch event, Dr. Tedros and the French Ministers highlighted the importance of WHO’s central role in global health.

France expressed its commitment to supporting WHO’s governance and financing reforms. Furthermore, France collaborates with the WHO Academy to enrich learners’ experiences through a diverse training portfolio.

Mr. Aurélien Rousseau, the Minister of Health and Prevention, announced France’s intention to host the first international financing conference for the fight against meningitis in partnership with WHO in early 2024.

The 2023-2027 French Strategy for Global Health was developed through collaboration with various stakeholders, including public agencies, civil society organizations, research institutions, and more.

A monitoring committee will oversee the Strategy’s implementation and progress, ensuring France’s continued commitment to global health and the pursuit of SDGs.
