Cygnet Health Care: Walkern Lodge Rated Good By CQC
Walkern Lodge is a residential care home operated by Cygnet Health Care.
Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors rated the facility as ‘Good’ across all categories in a 2022 CQC report. In particular, inspectors praised the kind and compassionate care provided by Walkern Lodge staff.

Located on Walkern Road, Stevenage, Walkern Lodge is run by Cygnet Health Care. They also provide care for adults with learning disabilities with challenging behaviors and associated complex needs. Following an inspection in June 2022, the CQC concluded the Walkern Lodge’s service, which was safe, effective, responsive, caring, and well-led.
Jamil Ali is Walkern Lodge’s Interim Service Manager. Reflecting on the CQC report, he said that everyone at Cygnet Health Care delights with the report explaining that as a staff team. They also work hard towards receiving the CQC’s ‘Good’ rating. Mr. Ali adds that the staff was very happy that the result is leading to a good place for Walkern Lodge to work and live.
Staff was particular praises by CQC inspectors for the care demonstrated towards residents. The report indicates that patients receive kind, compassionate support. And the care that reflects their own culture and preferences.
What Is CQC Report Showing?
The CQC report highlighted that staff promotes diversity and equality, supporting and responding to individual needs. The report also found that the care plans accurately reflect what people could do independently and what required support. These actions include plans and strategies to help people meet their aspirations and goals.
In addition, the CQC also commends care plans supporting healthy eating that detailed likes and dislikes to help residents maintain a balanced diet. It also illustrates how patients are getting the support to live fulfilling lives, with staff enabling them to do the things they want to in their own time.
Therefore the Inspectors highlight the case of one resident who developed a new skill that was impossible in other care settings and was only achievable with the staff team’s support.
The report states that the staff, management, and providers are developing the service in a way that ensures they have the knowledge. The resources are for supporting people experiencing periods of distress, with restrictions minimized. People are given the freedom and choice of how to live their lives.
